What is the difference between DeepSearch and Research Mode?
DeepSearch performs multi-agent autonomous web research to synthesize broad technical and industry questions. Research Mode connects directly to academic corpora (OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, arXiv) to generate PRISMA-compliant literature reviews and evidence tables with human-in-the-loop checkpoints.
Why DeepSeek?
Research Mode runs on DeepSeek V4.1 Flash 1017. On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index it scores 45, against 51 for Claude Opus 5. It produces about 198 tokens per second, against 56 for Opus 5. It costs $0.30 per 1M input tokens and $1.20 per 1M output tokens, against $5.00 and $25.00 for Opus 5. It is close in intelligence, much faster, and about 17 to 21 times cheaper. It has a 1M token context window. DeepSearch uses a different general-purpose model, which we may change over time.

The index is a general benchmark and does not test literature reviews. Prices are the provider list prices shown on that page, not what you pay us. How are run allowances and resets calculated?
Allowances reset every UTC calendar month for Free accounts, and on your billing renewal date for subscriptions. Concurrency and hourly start limits apply to protect server capacity and maintain low latency.
Can I use my own API key?
Yes, on every plan. Add your own key in your account settings and your runs use it instead of ours. Runs on your own key do not use the monthly allowance, so there is no monthly cap. They still follow the hourly limit shown on your plan (Free allows 1 run per hour) so the shared search services stay fair for everyone.
Is my API key safe?
Your key is encrypted before it is stored. It is only decrypted in server memory while one of your runs needs it, it is never shown again after you save it (you only see the last four characters), it is never written to logs, and it is never sent to your browser. You can delete it at any time and it is removed from our database.
When will paid checkout open?
Paid checkout is not open yet; you can use the Free plan and send an upgrade request.
